Good book but needs to be proof read
Rated out of 5 stars, October 12th, 2007
I bought this book because it mostly talks about Apache 1.3 which is what I want to use.
I found the information in the book really valuable, unfortunately there are a lot of mistakes in the book, e.g: Page 28 talks about basic configuration and defining Apache's root directory for web files, and it says it is done via the ServerRoot directive, this is false, it is done via the DocumentRoot directive. I am lucky that I know this already, if not I would not have been able to carry on. So this book is a no no for newbies. -
Not as simple as hoped-but did the job
Rated out of 5 stars, December 12th, 2004
I bought this book recently as I'd agreed to set up a web server for an associate and simply could not sort out an Apache config file from reading my other "big" Linux books (before you geeks scoff-I run a building site by day).
Read the book and within a day the site was up and running, so may be considered a success.Pros-easy to read and well focussed.
cons-concentrates on Apache 1.3 not 2.0 (but not a serious problem),you will still need to be familiar with the specifics of your OS/Distribution to make full use of it.Not as simple as I had hoped!
Summary-Site up and running on Apache so did the job.
