Basically this was the one book that really got me into C programming, not because it tries to do anything witty and cool, but because the style of the writing was simple to follow.
In programming you learn by reading as much code examples as possible, this book offers plenty of that, and progresses through by adding more features on top of the older one. I have found that the explanation of the code to be very clear and concise as well.
I have tried to read:
- C Primer Plus by Stephen Prata
Found it to be too complicated and progresses too slowly to get any satisfaction in reading it.
- The C Programming Language (2nd Edition) by Brian W. Kernighan and Dennis Ritchie
Although a good reference, its skips too much on the basics, a beginner would find it hard to get to grips to the content.
Beginning C is somewhere in the middle, where it offers good foundation, and yet lets the reader progress through at a pace that is satisfying.
