Reviews for Beginning PHP 5 & PostgreSQL 8: From Novice to Professional (Beginning: From Novice to Professional)

  1. Good book on PHP/PostgreSQL integration

    Rated 5 out of 5 stars, May 12th, 2008

Book is fairly clearly divided into 2 sections. Jason Gilmore starts off the book with details of PHP programming, followed by Robeert Treat's sections on PostgreSQL. Jason's section is very similar to his other book on PHP/MySQL, so you may not learn anything new there, but Robert's material is a useful 300 pages of good information and well-written overview. The package is very good: If you already know LAMP then this will help you pick up PHP/PostgreSQL quickly. If you don't yet PHP yet then learning PHP and PostgreSQL together in this way is great. Robert does a reasonable job of future proofing the information, so even though this is nearly 2 years old most of it is still relevant, even with the latest 8.3 release.
