Reviews for Beginning Python: From Novice to Professional (Beginning: From Novice to Professional)

  1. Found it difficult to get into

    Rated 3 out of 5 stars, February 12th, 2009

Ive been programming for years and used several language, this is not really begining, I found it difficutl to get into.
  2. Well I really liked it

    Rated 5 out of 5 stars, January 12th, 2009

I really liked this book, I've read quite a few now on python and I think this is the best for a beginner. There are 10 projects at the end and this gives you the chance to learn how to write software rather than just learn the syntax of a language.

This book may not have total completeness but this really wasn't what I was looking for (that's what the python documentation is for) but it has really got me up and running with the language. This means I have been having fun writing my own programs and learning the more exotic aspects of the language and standard library my self as and when I have needed them.
  3. Excellent

    Rated 5 out of 5 stars, December 12th, 2008

By far the best Python book I have read to date. The author has a very nice way of teaching the content and goes to great lenghts to explain each command and action - how it works - why it works and why it should be used etc.

It is a book I constantly refer to.
  4. Sorry excuse for a book

    Rated 1 out of 5 stars, October 12th, 2008

What can I say? A thousand ways to make your computer say "Hello World" and do a little counting on a web page! Nothing in this book that I couldn't have done in seconds with a little Java scripting. A complete waste of money.
  5. Get this book.

    Rated 5 out of 5 stars, August 12th, 2007

This is the PERFECT book to start python programming. It assumes no previous programming knowledge but still manages not to patronize or over-simplify.

The book covers all of the basics of python programming first and then has several chapters, each covering one advanced topic, such as GUI building, graphical report generation, web programming, etc.

Also has plenty of references to Monty Python =)

    Highly recommended.
