Not very good at all
Rated out of 5 stars, July 12th, 2008
I purchased this book hoping it would help me learn database programming with VS2008. It isnt very good. It spends too much time covering SQL Server, and then an awful lot of the actual VS2008 database examples are "console based", not "form" based examples. The section covering how to design using Forms is pitiful. I had to look on the internet for most of my knowledge and didnt use this book for anything. Even simple things like how to SAVE RECORDS, ADD NEW RECORD, DELETE, NAVIGATE, ONE-to-MANY FORMS, RELATED FORMS ETC ETC are just not there. I wouldnt reccomend this book! -
Better subtitle would be "From Dummie to Novice"

This book is extremely disappointing.
The first 150 pages are a rather poor and lengthy introduction to basic SQL. The book does not get to VB 2008 in any way really until approx page 138.
Thereafter we get basic discussion about datareaders and datasets - these are hardly new ( I think they came with VS 2002).
There is not even discussion of TableAdapters which came with VS 2005.
Finally to really annoy the reader, there is a chapter about basic events of the mouse - really I thought this book was supposed to be about database programming with VB 2008!
DONT BUY THIS BOOK - IT IS RUBBISH.
IF ONLY I COULD HAVE RATED IT AS ZERO STARS.
