This beginning guide reviews HTML and also introduces you to using XHTML for the structure of a web page and cascading style sheets (CSS) for controlling how a document should appear on a web page. You'll learn how to take advantage of the latest features of browsers while making sure that your pages still work in older, but popular, browsers.

Reviews for Beginning Web Programming with HTML, XHTML, and CSS (Wrox Programmer to Programmer)

  1. Good book but....

    Rated 4 out of 5 stars, January 12st, 2010

Good straightforwrad book which is written in a style easier to understand by novices such as myself and stays away form too much jargon. My only two complaints are that the book could be mor epleasing on the eye, laid out slightly better with a bit of colour etc and secondly it is startying to look a bit basic, though updated editions will probably address this.

I did not find their website particularly easy to use a learnign resource and feel it could benefit fomr some work.
  2. Easy to read, understand and a good reference book thereafter

    Rated 4 out of 5 stars, October 12th, 2009

I bought this book having already read a colleagues copy. I found it to be simple, well thought out and easy to follow and wanted to have a copy of my own for reference to the XHTML and CSS elements.
  3. HTML

    Rated 4 out of 5 stars, September 12th, 2008

Very good book for anyone with no knowledge of programming. I've nearly finished it and have already ordered my next Wrox book. If your wanting to learn the basics of html programming along with other areas CSS (I didn't even know what CSS was before I started....or html for that matter)then this is the book for you. Great introduction.
  4. How accessible is the site supposed to be ?

    Rated 3 out of 5 stars, November 12th, 2005

I bought the book to develop my understanding of XHTML/css with the specific purpose of trying to better understand accessibility issues. I think the book does a good job in getting you 'up and running'. However, the finished site does not render properly in Firefox (released version 1 or 1.5 Beta 2)if you try and magnify/enlarge the text the page actually disintegrates! It looks/behaves great in Opera and IE (subject to IEs limitations). I have tried raising the question on the publishers forum and not had a reply. Im unable to figure out how to correct the problem - is it code from the 'page' or a browser issue?

I still believe the author has produced a good work in a complex field; if this issue could be clarified I would reconsider my rating.

  5. Helpful guide....

    Rated 4 out of 5 stars, October 12th, 2004

I am a 3rd year Information Systems Student and this book has been really useful with assisting me with XHTML and CSS in my Web Principles module. It has useful examples that are explained in plain English, which is a delightful change from Computer Jargon written books.

Don't be put off from the size as you can just flick through to find the sections that you need help with.

Overall a good guide for people interested in building webpages in HTML/XHTML and CSS.

    Well recommended!!!
