A wonderful introduction to the World of Cloud Computing and the Azure Platform in particular
Rated out of 5 stars, March 12th, 2010
This is a great introduction to the Windows Azure Platform, if a little out of date as it was written based upon the pre-release version of the platform. The book covers all of the key aspects that make up Windows Azure, Microsoft's new Cloud computing platform; from a discussion of the hardware and software used to create the platform, through developing and deploying your applications, to managing your applications once they are deployed.
It was nice to see the coverage of the additional tools and task that are need to perform tasks currently not included in the platform such as Database backups and data synchronisation. It was this book that Microsoft gave copies of through user groups and the Open Spaces Azure Coding Day held in Birmingham on Saturday 27th March. -
The one Microsoft gave me free

I attended a introduction and training day for Windows Azure recently and in exchange for deploying a simple "Hello World" web application to the Windows Azure platform we were given this book. Recommended by the course instructor who has read the books out there on this subject. I've had a browse through and we see everything from introducing the hardware and software plaform so you know what your buying into, through to setting up your development environment, deploying projects to the cloud and all the code samples you would expect for the different topics. Also covered are the additional software tools needed for doing things like synchorinising data between on premises SQL Server 2008 and SQL Servre Azure on the cloud platform.
It is not an overly thick heavy book which is a big plus, I like my technical books to be concise as well as complete.
