Highly reccomended. Very good explanations, very good examples, easy to understand. Covers all the fundamentals that you will need.
I also recomend their second volume (advanced features). -

Really well written with excellent examples and clear diagrams. Great for newcomers and those looking to refresh their Java knowledge. It's split into 2 volumes so check which areas you are interested in, I would highly recommend buying both volumes, they are great.
