Reviews for Cross-Platform Development in C++: Building MAC OS X, Linux, and Windows Applications

  1. Excellent overview on creating portable C++ code

    Rated 4 out of 5 stars, January 12th, 2008

I found this book to be a great insight into the various aspects you need to take into account when creating highly portable code, and Syd Logan has had his fair share of experiences (good and bad) when he worked in the Netscape team.

The book covers various things from management, make files, installers, GUI frameworks, abstract frameworks (NSPR) to bug control systems (Bugzilla) and various other handy tools.

Perhaps the best features of this book is the way Syd explains the various factors through real life stories that he has experienced himself and thus introduces a wealth of credability to his advice which is generally thorough and intelligent.

I would have given this 4 1/2 out of 5 if I had the option - highly recommended.
