Reviews for Database Access with Visual Basic 6

  1. This book got me through 2 years VSO service in Belize.

    Rated 5 out of 5 stars, June 12nd, 2001

If you are familiar with VB but wish to go into the world of database applications then this is the book for you. I have rarely read a book which explains concepts so clearly and hand-holds you through the basics of DAO, ADO, RDO and DCOM. In two years in Belize without access to a bookshop, this was the only source of information I needed to help me write some fairly sophisticated database applications.

If you are new to VB database applications, I honestly cannot recommend this book highly enough.

  2. What this book is not:

    Rated 3 out of 5 stars, February 12th, 2000

Designed with SQL7, SQL2000 and XML in mind. Purely ADO based (MS has seemingly dropped DAO & RDO) Brilliant for n-tier enterprise development.

What it is: Good for VB programmers who want to do small databases using Access, 2 tier stuff, DataAccess controls, good overview for people who haven't a clue about data access.

The book was published in Jan 1999 and as such is starting to look a little dated

  3. Jeffrey's book is as good as his lectures - inspiring!

    Rated 5 out of 5 stars, January 12th, 2000

Jeffrey delivered a set of lectures at European DevWeek 1999, and I was also lucky enough to attend a week-end tutorial with him. His lectures are entertaining, informative, and geared for the professional developer. This book will be of tremedous use to you if you're just starting out, but as a professional wanting to get the jump on new database technologies (ADO and the new data controls) you cannot go wrong with this book. You may want to buy additional books for more detail on specific areas, but you will have a heads-up on all VB 6.0 database technologies by the time you complete this well-written and entertaining book.

It is one book which I want at the moment. It provides me enough chances and a direct way to know how to use VB6 and Database knowledge in IT field.
  5. A realy good book
