  1. Interesting, but might be limited

    Rated 4 out of 5 stars, June 12nd, 2009

This book is interesting in that it covers all the required subjects that the title of this book suggests. It is a very good start point for anyone looking into this subject for the first time and has the minimum skill sets required to complete the work. Like soldering, assembling PCs, installing and configuring Linux, etc. It does give fairly clear instructions for the work, but I'm a programmer and electronics guy anyway, so it was all pretty easy stuff.

But if you want to take it further, it does not go into enough depth. Since reading it, it has pointed me in some very good directions for the solutions I require. I hope Elektor releases a follow-up book to take it all deeper in the near future.

If you are new to this subject - excellent book. Otherwise, it may only give you some good pointers. If your are experienced in this subject, I would avoid it for personal use, but good as a recommendation to a friend who is starting in the arena.

Well written and presented, not 5* because I would have liked the book to go deeper as a second half.
