Reviews for Embedded Systems Firmware Demystified: Building Embedded Systems from the Ground Up

  1. Pretty good embedded-systems book

    Rated 4 out of 5 stars, October 12th, 2002

Not bad at all, although the technical level could've been pitched a little higher. I bought this mainly because I'd been very impressed with Ed Sutter's "MicroMonitor" package, and because there are relatively few GOOD books on embedded that I can use to show beginners how to get started.

Sutter covers most of the topics an beginning-to-intermediate embedded programmer would need to know about, concentrating particularly on the provision of a flash-memory filesystem and a TCP/IP stack, and provides some good design ideas and snippets of code.

The book is accompanied by a CD-ROM that contains GCC cross-compilers for many different targets - this alone could make it worth the price for many readers.

Definitely not the last word in embedded systems books but useful to have on the shelf.
