Reviews for Financial Freedom Through Electronic Day Trading

  1. A definitive source for the beginning day trader

    Rated 5 out of 5 stars, July 12th, 2009

This book is best read together with the other two Van Tharp books, "Trade your way to financial freedom" and "Safe Strategies for Financial Freedom". Trade your way, deals mainly with the psychological aspect of trading and investing. Safe strategies prepares you financially and gives you strategies for moving towards financial freedom. Once you are on that road this book, "Financial Freedom through electronic day trading" opens up the world of day trading through the eyes of one trader's experience. This book is a step by step, approach into the preparation required to trade. It is one of the few books that describes the business planning, technological planning and psychological preparation that is required before even thinking of a trade. Then, after that journey, he teaches techniques that are IMMEDIATELY applicable in any market condition. In the book only four major trading techniques are described. These techniques however cover the entire trading day from start to finish, simply and efficiently with a no-nonsense, unemotional approach. The author is clear that his methods will not make you an instant millionaire, but encourages you to use his methods as a scaffold upon which to create your own trading methods.
This book is a definitive source for the beginning day trader.
  2. Lots of noise not much substance!

    Rated 2 out of 5 stars, May 12th, 2004

I had to write this comment to balance the view on this book, having just read it. If you are serious about investing, look somewhere else.

There is a small part of this book that offers an insight on the general aspects of RealTick and CyberTrader, but I think reading brokers manuals would do better. There is no strategy in this book for investing, just lots of babble. I wasted my time and I am writing this just to spare your valuable time!

I very much doubt these people can make money trading, just publishing poor quality books like this. I am sorry if this sounds harsh. If you don't trust my view, read Chapter 1 and no further! It'll give you a taste of the crap they preach, don't expect things to get any more intelligent than this.

Dr Tharp borrows concepts from Stephen Covey but fails to deliver them in the same style, making a pig's breakfast about the personal aspects of trading.

It's a shame that Jack Schwager mentions Tharp in his superb books on Market Wizards! Jack you ought to know better!

Harsh criticism, but this is the only way to warn people and to dissuade these charlatans from publishing insulting books on investment!

  3. Opening The Eyes Of A Professor

    Rated 5 out of 5 stars, May 12th, 2004

As a university professor of Economics for 22 years, I've known of and taught about the evolution of economic markets from one society to another. This book will take you into the world of trading but at light speed. It's exciting and will show you the potential benefits and downfalls of the market. It guides you along the razors edge of the day trading world and shows you how to be successful while others are cut to pieces. This book is one of 3 books that I highly recommend to students and clients of mine. The other two books are Back On Track To Financial Freedom, By: Andrew J. Green and Rich Dad Poor Dad, By: Robert Kiyosaki
  4. Essential reading!

    Rated 5 out of 5 stars, December 12nd, 2003

I have bought and read a lot of trading books since starting trading 14 months ago (approx 12 books). Most trading books cover pretty much the same topics regarding TA and stock picking, however this one is different.

The book is easy to read for the beginner but is not too basic for the more experienced trader. Real-world trading examples are used to demonstrate principles (though they are American examples).
This really is a book that can take you from a beggining trader to a profitable trader, or at the very least it will stop you from losing all your money (which can happen very quickly in this game).

The book covers a lot of ground, but it's primary strengths are where it covers money management and trading psychology.
The psychology side permeates the whole book as well as having dedicated sections, with some revelations that seem obvious after reading, but demonstrate the way our mindset gets stuck in a rut. A rut that can cost you everything on the markets.
The money management sections are just a goldmine pure and simple, they could save you the price of the book on your first trade!

If my bookshelf caught fire, I would aim the extinguisher at this book first. (That's a slight untruth as it has a permanent place of residence in my laptop bag and goes everywhere with me).

Read it, then read it again and promise yourself that you will follow it's teachings before you put one penny into the money markets.

  5. Does what it says on the cover.

    Rated 5 out of 5 stars, October 12th, 2003

This is one of my top ten recomended books on trading and is available at one of the lowest prices too. This book provides a true outline for becoming a succesful trader, the author clearly knows his stuff.

The book includes all aspects of trading, the organistion, the pscyhology and the methodology. The author lays out his own trades and methods, which is what many books lack.

It is also organised into a readable and executable structure, the main points and action points of each chapter are summarised and the author tells you exactly what to do - there is no confusion.
