Reviews for Foundations of ASP.NET Ajax 2nd Edition (Expert's Voice in .Net)

  1. Not much use

    Rated 1 out of 5 stars, June 12th, 2008

This book is a quick breeze through the Foundations of ASP.NET AJAX.

Problem with it is - it is not a particularly useful book, imparting no real useful knowledge to the reader that couldn't be obtained from just browsing the Ajax Server Controls and Ajax Control Toolkit themselves. Two of the ten chapters simply list the AJAX Control Toolkit's controls and their properties, while the final chapter where you build an AJAX Stock Ticker application is a scrappy, incomplete disappointment (you must download code from the Apress website to complete the application as it is not listed in the book)

The whole text seems bitty, disjointed and rarely ventures beyond describing the obvious. That may be because it has three authors, or perhaps it was a rushed job; there are certainly errors which made it past the proof-reading stage, such as the text place-holders still found in several places e.g. page 58 "In Visual Studio 2008, there is a great Intellisense support for all types in xyz"... and again on page 66 "The Sys Namespace is the root namespace for xyz".

All in all, not much use.
