Reviews for Head First HTML with CSS & XHTML

  1. Excellent introduction!

    Rated 5 out of 5 stars, February 12nd, 2010

I bough this book hoping to get a better of grip of html, and wow, it did the job so well. Even though it's probably not the best book to be used for reference, it's a fantastic learning tool - fun to read, very comprehensive and it makes sure to reinforce the information in different ways, avoiding getting tedious and repetitive. I got so into it that have now ordered a Javascript, and a PHP and MySQL book from the same "Heads first" line.
  2. Good Beginner's Book

    Rated 4 out of 5 stars, February 12th, 2010

This is a good book for people who have no knowledge of HTML and CSS.

It covers all the basics in a fun and easy to learn way and I learnt a lot from this book. It's actually an enjoyable read and I often dig the book out and use it for a quick reference despite Head First claiming it's not a reference book.

To my knowledge this is the only HF book that's full colour and it really helps bring the examples to life.

The only problem I have with this book is that it doesn't cover navigation menus which is very important and something a beginner would definitely struggle with (or at least I did).

If you buy this book, and I certainly recommend it, don't expect it to be the last book on HTML and CSS you buy. Personally I think Sitepoint'sThe CSS Anthology: 101 Essential Tips, Tricks & Hacks, 2nd Edition: 101 Essential Tips, Tricks and Hacks is a really good book on web design and I would recommend it along with this one.
  3. For beginners only!

    Rated 3 out of 5 stars, January 12th, 2010

If you are a total beginner then is the book for you. If you ever written code in your life the this is NOT for you. Is too detailed and it doesn't get advanced at any point. If you want a book that you can actually get the basic tools to build a modern site then get the "Build Your Own Website The Right Way Using HTML & CSS 2nd Edition".
  4. Simply Awesome

    Rated 5 out of 5 stars, August 12th, 2009

Quite simply the best web design investment I've made, if you're looking for a book to learn html / xhtml and css - I can highly recommend this one. An intelligently written book which feels more like an interactive workshop, ignore the comments about unfunny jokes, the book simply hits all learning styles in a fun and light hearted manner.
  5. Head First, informative, easy to read/learn.

    Rated 5 out of 5 stars, July 12th, 2009

This book is an excellent resourse for people who are aspiring to create their own website. All the knowledge you need for this book is a basic understanding of your PC and its applications and the personal need to learn this subject.
its well planned, its topics are structured well.
    its humerous, and memorable.
and above all, easy to read. you will not fall asleep reading this.

I am using this book in conjuction with a course and im finding it perfect for the job, WELL worth the money.

I'l definately be buying some of the other books in the series soon.

    Happy coding fellows!
