Reviews for How to Become a Successful IT Consultant (Computer Weekly Professional)

  1. Read it before you dream it

    Rated 5 out of 5 stars, June 12th, 2009

Having recently lost my job, I thought I would just start my own consultantcy, but I had no idea what that involved. This book (thin for the price) covers everything. Exactly which area you want to specilise in, how ot set up the business, marketing, accounts etc.
It does not tackle each area in detail, but there is enough practical real life information to ensure that you know all the tasks you will be taking on.
This helped guide me to concentrate on the exact type of consultantcy I needed for me, not what I thought I should do.
If you are thinking about doing this, read this book.
  2. A good primer

    Rated 4 out of 5 stars, March 12nd, 2004

The book has good coverage of many of the practical aspects of being an IT consultant. The author shares his insight from many years of experience and his recommendations for developing your commercial proposition and then marketing yourself will be useful to many.
Early in the book he describes some of the essential characteristics of a good consultant. Anyone considering taking the plunge or struggling to get going could find some useful pointers here.
  3. Cushioned push to IT Consultancy

    Rated 4 out of 5 stars, December 12th, 2002

Dan has put together a real-life approach to taking the plunge into consultancy, specially the parts that deal with how to find clients, how to get more business, how to price your services, the economical support required and how to plan your consulting projects.

It is like getting answers from a consultant that has been there, done it and got the T-shirt.

If you have any doubts this book can put your fears at rest. Dan's book will help you decide if jumping into consultancy is for you, and if it is, how to get started.

Good use of pictures and diagrams through out the book.

    If in doubt, buy it.
