A Great Book!
Rated out of 5 stars, February 12rd, 2010
I consider this one of the best book on the subject matter. It is written with a very practical approach and the examples are very well explained. There are also a lot of exercises at the end of each chapter which provide the possibility to practice. Reading is facilitated by the different colors/fonts used to highlight specific aspects. -
Java - How to Program; Early Objects Edition (8th Ed.)
Rated out of 5 stars, December 12st, 2009
This book (although it is quite small and incredibly chunky) is very useful. It covers all aspects of Java - from basic If statements, to complex web design and graphical functions.
Complements my first year Engineering studies perfectly, and I would recommend it to anyone considering any textbook for Java.
I had no previous experience of any programming and this book has pulled me through the first year (so far) quite comfortably. Highly recommended!
Hope this helps!

Superb
Rated out of 5 stars, August 12rd, 2009
I've done some programming in other languages (C#, Actionscript etc) but recently wanted to get into Java. This book is superb. Packed full of excellent explanations, and a terrific range of exercises. (BUT be aware that this is a paperback, not Hardcover as listed here.) Not the cheapest book, for sure, but worth every penny, I'd say.
