Reviews for JavaScript for Dummies

  1. dumb n dumber

    Rated 2 out of 5 stars, December 12th, 2009

am new to js so needed real nuts n bolts intro; this isnt it despite promises. it doesnt explain terminology in simple terms. will hopefully be useful when i've learnt a bit more but at the mo i definately feel dumber!
  2. A Beginners Review

    Rated 4 out of 5 stars, November 12th, 2009

As a beginner to JavaScript, and with little or no scripting experience in the past, I have found this book very useful as I learn more about Web Design and Development. The examples are easy to reproduce and the CD included with this book is a very handy accompanyment; helping you learn and expand your skills in a step-wise fashion.

A good reference for those looking to add a little more 'wow factor' to their WebSites.
  3. Javacript for absolute beginners!

    Rated 4 out of 5 stars, April 12th, 2009

As said in the title, this is the book you need when you know absolutely nothing about Javascript. Or else, maybe you've tried to learn before and it still reads like an alien language!

I have come to order this from the position of complete beginner. In addition scripting does not come easily to me at all. But with the aid of this book, I have learnt about Javascript's history and enough of basic scripting to begin to experiment with my own examples.

Note this is not a book for people who are perhaps more familiar with the language and want more tips. Like the title suggests, it is for those who, like me, need detailed explanations, and in-depth examples for every step.

However, even if you do have some understanding, you can simply breeze through and refresh your knowledge. It is written in such a way that you can jump from chapter to chapter OR read sequentially.

The book includes sample code with accompanying explanations, as well as examples of real techniques for your site, i.e, image, slideshows, interactive menus and so on.

I throroughly recommend this book, especially if you are on the verge of tearing your hair out and putting your pc monitor through the window!!!
  4. What a waste of money

    Rated 1 out of 5 stars, November 12th, 2007

Not only is this book poorly organised, the CD that came with it did not contain all the files that it said it would. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Far better is SAMS Javascript in 24hours which unfortunately is not generally available in the UK (Why not?). Found it on Amazon nonetheless.
  5. JavaScript for Dummies !!!!!!!

    Rated 1 out of 5 stars, December 12th, 2005

I had great expectations of this book, i am a complete novice at javascript and thought this book would help me understand the concepts more easily in preparation for a course i am about to undertake. But this dummie certainly found the book too difficult to grasp.I hope that i can use this book as a reference once i have finally mastered the art of javascript from other sources. If you are thinking of buying this book as a complete beginner then think again, there are better books out there than this one to start with
