Reviews for Karl Moore's Visual Basic.NET: The Tutorials (The Expert's Voice)

  1. Excellent Starting Point

    Rated 5 out of 5 stars, July 12th, 2004

This is a brilliant book for getting an understanding of how to get up and running in VB.NET. It is a very easy book to read and I took it away on holiday with me to read on the beach. Plenty of screenshots so there was no need to be at a computer to read it.

It is written as an introduction but covers database programming with ADO.NET, web design with ASP.NET, Web Services, Mobile programming etc and for each section it has a list of book and website references for further information.

A very good book to get you started as quickly as possible.

  2. Great book for those new to the industry

A miniature review from Sweden here to say Karl has done great job with this book, very well put together and humouring. Thank you...
  3. Check this guy out first...

    Rated 1 out of 5 stars, December 12th, 2003

Everything about this guy smacks of a multi-level marketing guy. He is so good at blowing his own trumpet he is starting to believe his own press. There is no substance to anything he says and like one other reviewer stated, he is more interested in being liked than actually delivering anything of any real value.

It seems to me that he is trying to be something he is not. If you spend 10-20 minutes researching this guy; from his contributions to development web sites, to looking at his own web site, to searching in Google groups - you will find that all he does is talk about himself without putting his money where his mouth is.

Anyway, as for the book - I personally don't like the style in which it is written. I think it lacks maturity and a real insight into the topics which are discussed therein. Stick to a major publisher who vets their authors and edits their books properly.

  4. Instant delivery, great job

    Rated 5 out of 5 stars, October 12th, 2003

I took this book on holiday with me to Majorca.. it was fantastic to read a tutorial book without having to even be in front of the computer. Mr Moore teaches in a way that makes you read and want to learn more. If you're new, or are porting to .NET, this is the book you HAVE to buy!!
  5. What a refreshing change!!

    Rated 5 out of 5 stars, September 12th, 2003

I bought this book after buying Mr Moore's "Ultimate VB .NET and ASP.NET Code Book"... what a great decision! This is a really cool set of tutorials for people just starting out. It takes you really in-depth though, but it reads such fun that you hardly even know you're learning. Really cool, if you're thinking about this one... just BUY IT... send it back if you don't like it. You'll keep it, guaranteed. I work in Brum and have just bought copies for two of my fellow programmers.
