Very good shame about the errata
Rated out of 5 stars, May 12th, 2001
This is an extremely good book [but] some of the mistakes are almost criminal (and there are errors on the errata page) although the author has said that these will be fixed in future printings. The book itself is by far the best "Learn to Program tutorial" I have ever read it builds up the basic concepts very quickly and explains things in a very clear manner.

Ideal for beginners or more experienced programmers
Rated out of 5 stars, April 12nd, 2001
In a world where many computing books don't allow you to see the wood for the trees, this book homes in on the key features of successful programming.Although the language Python is used, the lessons that the reader will learn from this book can be applied to many programming languages - C++, Java, etc.
Gauld's easy to read style belies the complex topics explained while the attached CD has a handy tutorial.
Highly recommended - I found it very worthwhile.
