Reviews for Learning MySQL

A mis-titled book but good information nonetheless.

This book should have been called "Learning MySQL Administration". It focuses more on system admin and setting up servers etc than on the language usage itself. It has excellent info on those topics, and is a great source if you are wanting to build MySQL servers etc (if that is the case, add on a couple of stars), but I was looking for more of a language resource, and it glossed over that. -
Good if you're setting up a server

This is a well written book that will take a new starter from nothing through to running their own MySQL server. If you are wanting to use the book as a reference for using MySQL as a data source for websites then you will find some gaps. I could find nothing on obvious things like date formatting or on managing text strings which I think many people will find frustrating. If you want to set up and administer a MySQL server then go for it. -
