Reviews for MCITP SQL Server 2005 Database Administration All-in-One Exam Guide (Exams 70-431, 70-443, & 70-444)

  1. Be careful

    Rated 2 out of 5 stars, January 12nd, 2010

Be very careful if you by this book, some of the answers to the questions are incorrect (according to microsoft) but it is worth reading if you are going for the MCITP. The microsoft books are a lot better and you get 10% of each exam as you take it.
  2. a masterpiece

    Rated 5 out of 5 stars, November 12th, 2009

I can thoroughly recommend this book for all those who are interested in becoming involved in database administration. A well structured and good book explaining the fundamental knowledge necessary to become certified. It is a book for study but at the same time as a reference book. A must have for a DBA.
  3. Very well written

    Rated 5 out of 5 stars, October 12th, 2009

I purchased both this and the sister developer book after I recently completed my MCDBA credential (which I passed using Microsoft Press books). These McGraw books are a breath of fresh air, very well written, light hearted with lots of tips and exercises to hammer home everything you need to know about the exams. I reckon I knew 60-75%% of what was needed from my MCDBA, but you really need a study guide to help you through the new features covered by 2005 exams.
Its actually an enjoyable read, it hasn't bored me to death. Unlike other training books! I'll definately consider another McGraw Hill / Darril Gibson training book. Perhaps they could complete the set and write one on Business Intelligence?
  4. Worth a place on your bookshelf

    Rated 4 out of 5 stars, September 12th, 2009

Although this book is a great study guide for the MCITP examinations, it's also a very good reference book in its own right.

It does a good job of explaining many of the key topics of SQL Server 2005 - I particularly enjoyed the chapter on indexes and statistics which was very well written.

I've read it cover to cover twice and I still dip into it from time to time when I need to refresh my memory on the odd thing.

There are a few typos in it, so definitely check out the author's web-site for errata beforehand. I found a couple myself and reported them and the author was nice enough e-mail me back.
