Reviews for Microsoft Expression Web Developer's Guide to ASP.NET 3.5: Learn to Create ASP.NET Applications Using Visual Web Developer 2008

  1. Disappointingly unhelpful

The book has all of the right headings but none of the content. The most common phrase you will read is "... but this is outside the scope of the book." You will be better off reading the help pages and walkthroughs in web developer yourself. Don't waste your money or time with this purchase. I still can't believe that the publishers agreed to this author's work.

Microsoft Expression Web Developer's Guide to ASP.NET 3.5: Learn to Create ASP.NET Applications Using Visual Web Developer 2008
This book is excellent. It is easy to understand and very well written. I can do a great deal of stuff now and the Visual Web Developer is excellent software. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to move on from Expression Web 2 and create more sophisticated ASP.NET sites, including login systems and contact forms. It also gives you a flavour for AJAX and I have moved on to using the new AJAX Toolkit.
  3. Excellent intro into using Visual Web Developer 2008

    Rated 5 out of 5 stars, July 12th, 2008

Excellent intro into using Visual Web Developer 2008, both the express (free) version and the full Visual Studio (not free) version.
Also covers various server options for developers, and how to best integrate these with Visual Web Developer 2008. Comprehensive cover of this powerful development tool including adding Ajax functionality, debugging and publishing an application to the web.

It is thorough in its coverage, well written and very helpful with its pointers to various areas of further interest.

I use Visual Studio Professional but tried the new Express version just to see what Microsoft give away for free and was amazed at the level of functionality available free of charge. You can build some powerful applications with Visual Web Developer 2008, and this book will show you how.

    Excellent beginner's book.
