Reviews for More iPhone 3 Development: Tackling iPhone SDK 3 (Books for Professionals by Professionals)

  1. Superb, Once Again

    Rated 5 out of 5 stars, February 12th, 2010

As with their previous book, Dave and Jeff continue on with the fun, enjoyable style of writing that really takes the drag out of studying such a lot of information.

Well presented with clear examples and useful notes on pitfalls etc...

As a relative new-comer to iPhone development, from a development background on other platforms, I found this refreshing and enjoyable as well as deep and informative.

I can thoroughly recommend this and the others in the series.
  2. Dave and Jeff, i think the best!

I have bought a lot of iPhone developing books, and now I have no doubt, These books, "More iPhone 3 Development" and "Beginnig iPhone Development" are the best for begin and then to become a true iPhone Developer. Go on boys!

  3. More iPhone 3 Development... More of the good stuff...

    Rated 5 out of 5 stars, January 12th, 2010

Jeff and Dave return with a follow up book to Beginning iPhone 3 Development and it picks up right from where the first book ended.

It's written in a similar style to the first book and is targeted towards developers who are comfortable with the concepts and material covered in that volume.

Nearly half the book is dedicated to Core Data, the new object persistence technology introduced with iPhone SDK 3.0. Although the Apple Documentation on Core Data is very comprehensive, these chapters provide a little extra hand-holding and guidance on this advanced technology.

The second half of the book covers a variety of additional API technologies including networking, mapkit and iPod library access. However by far the most useful section of this book deals with keeping your app responsive by using multi-threading and asynchronous operations. This is a tricky subject area and Jeff and Dave do a good job of explaining it all.

I'm an experienced developer and found this book useful and easy to skim to details despite being orientated towards novice-to-intermediate level programmers. That alone is quite an achievement, but the easy going writing style along with quality advice and information mean this is a solid investment for any iPhone developers.
