Reviews for Networking and Internetworking with Microcontrollers

  1. An OK read, but dated and no hardware available to support it

    Rated 2 out of 5 stars, January 12nd, 2008

The book is a good introduction to its subjects for those with some programming experience who want to learn more about networking. This is largely because it is very hands-on in its approach - using boards designed by the author which the reader is encouraged to build and on which to test the software described in the text.
However, the boards are no longer available from the author's website - although there are repeated references to them in the text. It took several emails to determine this from the author himself.
Furthermore, the devices described, although themselves still available (so you could in theory make up your own PCBs), have been overtaken by newer technology. The devices to use now seem to be the ENC28J60 Ethernet Controller and the PIC18F97J60 Ethernet microcontroller. So I would recommend looking at the info available on the internet on these devices rather than this particular book
  2. Very Good Book

    Rated 5 out of 5 stars, September 12th, 2007

I have only started reading the book but from the start I have a feeling that the book is worth every penny it costs. Straight forward language and use of simple examples with clear explanations. I'm looking forward to have some more free time to build all the gizmo's and having a fun with experimenting.
I can strongly recommend this book to every hobbyist or student to enrich their knowledge of electronic and communication systems.
