Reviews for Object Oriented Databases (Prentice Hall International Series in Computing Science)

  1. OODB designer's book.

    Rated 5 out of 5 stars, July 12th, 2007

I bought this book to help me with my University course. I was looking for a book with a good grounding, which I could reference and also learn a little more about the subject matter (as you can guess there are a ton of books for Relational DB (RDB), but not as many for OO DB)

This book does not disappoint. I found it to be concise covering all the points which I required. It covers an OO DB Query and design, OO Design, OO Languages, a little on RDB.

As you can guess the code is a little dated, but it's the theory covered in this book is still used. Take for example the following chapters are very relevant in today's OO DBMS's

    Object-Based Concurrency, recovery and distribution
    Semantic Data modelling
    Object-orientated data modelling

I would say that you need a basic knowledge of OO programming, and a little in RDB.

Great read, it helped me understand all the area's I required (transaction, recovery, concurrency, design etc)
