Excellent, can not fault this book
Rated out of 5 stars, October 12rd, 2006
I agree with the approving reviews here. This is an excellent book if you want to prepare for 1Z0-007. Also excellent to build your knowledge and skills in SQL and Oracle SQL.
I've passed the exam recently using this book, of course with an Oracle database to hand. I did have a fairly good knowledge of SQL prior to studying for the exam. I did not need to use much else, certainly I did not buy any self test software. The end of chapter exams, the sample exams, and the CD rom are all excellent preparation for the exam and drill the key points in. -
Fundamentally Good, but to Pass Exam
Rated out of 5 stars, September 12th, 2004
This book is good enough for anyone who wishes to learn the fundamental concepts for passing the 1ZO-007 exam, and for generally using Oracle 9i SQL, but to pass the exam, I would thoroughly recommend you supplement this with the use of the official testing software, which covers additional important information, and at the time of writing this review, is available at the following address:www.selftestsoftware.com
In a nutshell, I was able to pass the exam with the information contained in this book, but definitely needed the additional help of the self test software.
Good luck!

Don't waste your money

I would not advise this book for a new SQL person! I have used Sybex throughout all of my MCSE's and CCA's and i have to say... Sybex you have failed this time. This book is very boring and complex. It lists all of the SQL statements and provides examples of them. However, the examples are more confusing than the actual statment itself! I found myself reading and reading, but not taking anything in. A good idea would have been to have a practical session on the statements covered, so the reader could have a better practical understanding of SQL. I would recommend getting your hands on the Oracle 9I SQL Student Guide. This is fantasic, it has better examples and has a complete practical session.

Pedagogically Sound !
Rated out of 5 stars, November 12th, 2002
I read this book thoroughly and found the method of training excellent. Every chapter has content that is updated with the features in Oracle 9i and supported with good examples. The review exams really test your understanding of the material in every chapter thus reinforcing your learning. The portions are consistent with the exam objectives. Moreover the CD has fine resources to strengthen your preparation. It would be best to have a Oracle Database handy to try out every example so you get confidence. Do not take this exam lightly as there is much to retain to do well. Even though I have experience working with the Oracle and started off thinking I would finish my preparation in a breeze I was surprised at how much I did not know. Before you get started check out the errata and make changes so you can be sure you are reading the correct material. I recommend this book to any candidate who is looking for material to start his preparation for the OCP DBA 9i track.

A very good book.
Rated out of 5 stars, May 12rd, 2002
This book gives an in-depth analysis of official exam objectives and practical information on using SQL in a real-world Oracle9i scenario. It contains hundreds of challenging practice questions, in the book and on the CD which come out very helpful.
This book actually assisted me in passing the Oracle DBA certification. It also helped me in concentrating on what I need to know as a DBA and how to manage a Database.
