Reviews for PHP 6 and MySQL 5 for Dynamic Web Sites: Visual QuickPro Guide (Visual QuickPro Guides)

  1. Brilliant book, wish i bought it sooner!!

    Rated 5 out of 5 stars, April 12th, 2010

This is a really good book, i only slightly knew php & mysql before but this book pretty much answered all my questions.

VERY easy to read (like most of the quick start books), if you enjoyed Elizabeth Castro's HTML guide and you're thinking where can I go from here? This is a good step.
Easy to follow tutorials and screen shots all the way through, diagrams incase you get stuck and some good analogies.

This book assumes you know very little about either PHP or MYsql and builds you from the ground up. Some may say it doesn't go into deep detail but it's definitely a good start. I regret not using this book when I was in uni.
  2. Would give 10 out of 10

    Rated 5 out of 5 stars, March 12th, 2010

I really like this book. All the code works (so far) - you can't say that about many such books. The examples are very useful and actually do something.
Explanations are good and thorough. I'm considering purchasing other books by the same author.
  3. Excellent book for intermediate web programmers

    Rated 5 out of 5 stars, March 12th, 2010

This book is excellent for intermediate web programmers who already have a decent understanding of (X)HTML and CSS. I am a professional web programmer, and after just the first 4 chapters i was already able to create powerful websites using PHP.

This book is over 600 pages long, but you can read pages quite quickly, as the information is spread out with Tips, Hints, Diagrams, Tables and Images.

This book does not explicitly say how to install MySQL, but if you are a decent computer user, then it's easy to find the information online to get it working. The information on MySQL programming is excellent, detailing database schemeta, and also how to create robust Normalized databases.

Well worth the buy, highly recommended!
  4. Book for advanced

    Rated 5 out of 5 stars, January 12th, 2010

This is a very good book with code examples from real world. Is better to read first PHP 5 IN EASY STEPS or PHP FOR THE WEB.
  5. Getting started PHP and MYSQL

    Rated 5 out of 5 stars, December 12th, 2009

Excellent book with lots of fully explained script examples that get you going quickly.
Just make sure your isp has support for mysqli extensions - mine did not.
