Reviews for Professional iPhone and iPod Touch Programming: Building Applications for Mobile Safari (Wrox Professional Guides)

  1. Web Dev for ipod

    Rated 3 out of 5 stars, February 12nd, 2010

I began working through this book and though the scripts produced the simulated ipod screens there is no specific guidance concerning the type of tools that could be used to create the web pages on the Macintosh.
iWeb is not an options and though XCode, IB and Dashcode have all the elements to develop for the iPod they all require a considerable learning curve. I thought that the HTML route could be an easyier option, hence purchasing the book. It is with a little disappointment that I have to give the book a moderate rating.
  2. Excellent starting point ...

    Rated 5 out of 5 stars, November 12th, 2008

This book is an excellent starting point for anyone looking to start developing web applications and dedicated iPhone websites. Simple to follow, well laid out and with links to all the major resources required to produce your own apps this book really couldn't do a lot more. With only an intermediate knowledge of XHTML and CSS I was able to develop some effective sites. Highly recommended.
  3. Comprehensive

    Rated 4 out of 5 stars, July 12th, 2008

This is a pretty comprehensive guide for anyone looking to start developing web applications for the iPhone.

Native apps have taken the headlines but webapps are still powerful and valuable.

This covers some of the great features held within mobile safari, such as canvas and the webkit css features.

The only thing missing is creating offline databases, hence 4 stars, but it's still a valuable resource to have. Combine this with the apple developer resources and you won't go far wrong.
