Reviews for Python Developer's Handbook (Other Sams)

  1. The how-to and where to look for more. A proper handbook.

    Rated 4 out of 5 stars, July 12th, 2001

I have read a few books on Python and this one comes top of my list for its excellent coverage from the basic language itself to html, CGI, XML, databases and...

If it was to go further, its definition would change from handbook to encyclopedia. As it stands, it should be a useful text for the new programmer - because it gives a simple enough introduction to the language - to the experienced programmer - because the book looks into many corners of the programming world.

I did spot the odd error which crept into the text because the author's first language is not English. I mean this not too harshly because the correct word or term isn't too hard to guess, and sometimes it just makes the book a bit less stuffy (Python books usually have some humour in them anyway).

My opinion is that this one is worth it!
