Reviews for RT Essentials

  1. So near and yet so far!

    Rated 2 out of 5 stars, February 12th, 2010

This book looked like it had so much promise. RT is an excellent job-ticketing system, but documentation tends to be sketchy and scattered (but I guess you get what you pay for with free software...). So when I saw this book I was quite excited. However, it seems to concentrate on RT internals and contains very little on the web interface and day-to-day use of RT, which is surely how most people use it. The index is almost useless, and when you do find what you want the information seems to be severely lacking in detail. I am sure the book contains a lot of useful information, but most of it is of no use to 'everyday' RT users.
Sorry but it's very hard to recommend this book. It seems to be more of a motley collection of thoughts and ideas than a structured piece of work. I do hope that a new edition is planned and will address these shortcomings.
