Reviews for Sams Teach Yourself JavaScript 1.3 in 24 Hours

  1. This book RULES!

    Rated 4 out of 5 stars, January 12th, 2001

This book is SO cool! I bought it the other day and already I've learned more about Javascript than I ever thought possible to learn from a book!

The chapter on writing a small card game using JS is a particular example of the sheer excellence of this book's teaching methods!

To put it simply, I just cannot praise this book enough! It is one of THE best computer related reference books I have EVER purchased!

  2. THE place to start for Javascript

    Rated 5 out of 5 stars, October 12th, 2000

This is a lovely little book. If you want to learn javascript quickly and smartly then you could do worse than spend a couple of days with this brilliantly constructed book. By the end of it you should be able to write some pretty nice scripts - no problem.

The only thing missing is perhaps a chapter on the browser object model (esp if you're going into it for DHTML). But you can top that up with a more advanced book.

  3. Short and clear examples for the complete beginner

    Rated 4 out of 5 stars, September 12rd, 2000

I had very little knowledge of Javascript before buying this book. Now I have refined one of my forms to handle errors easier. As the title says I found the examples short and simple which is what we want (not complex programs because the author likes to show off). Some of the examples in the book did not work but were ok on the web site (was this some sort of initiation test?) I still can't get the Piano to play any notes!
  4. GREAT BOOK!

    Rated 5 out of 5 stars, March 12th, 2000

This book is great for JavaScript starters. I just bought the book and found it really easy to understand. Not too complicated like the other ones. I really recommend this book to people who want to develop their Web pages
  5. Very good beginners book which is perfect to get started in

    Rated 4 out of 5 stars, March 12th, 2000

For the price and size of the book, I thoroughly recommend this book. Having no experience in JavaScript, I quickly picked up the essentials and immediately improved my webpage with snippets of JavaScript. Good examples throughout and clear concise text. Although it doesn't go into anything very advanced, this is great to get you started, but you will quickly want to get a more detailed and advanced book as a reference.
