Sam's Programming with Java in 24 hours

I found this publication to be slow enough at the begining that even a novice such as myself could keep up without
feeling overwhelmed. -
Very good

I couldn't disagree more with the previous reviewer. I recently completed a year long course in computer science and this was one of the textbooks that got me through. The book's fun and relaxed approach makes it easier to learn and, more importantly, remember concepts in Java. Which is a lot more than I can say for some of my lecturers and their notes.
All in all, a useful addition to any Java library. -
Avoid this book

This is a truely useless book. It teaches nothing of any substance about Java and mainly covers the author's American upbringing. An example is where he's writing a "virus" and the seconds on the modified file are set to 86 because 86 is slang for bin it. Really, not here in the UK it isn't! The questions at the end of the chapter are purile. If you want a decent Java book, this isn't it!
