Reviews for Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA): A Planning and Implementation Guide for Business and Technology
-
Well-written book on the business and technological aspects of SOA implementations
Rated out of 5 stars, January 12th, 2008
I enjoyed reading this book which thorougly explains the concept of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) and details steps such as business modelling, services identification, analysis and design needed for SOA implementation. The book also details several model views of SOA such as service integration, service reusability , architecture organization, business case and return on investement models.
All these together with SOA governance are very important for organizations that will embark on a SOA journey. The book clearly illustrates the way to explain (sell) the business benefits of SOA to organizational stakeholders, and what is needed for a successful SOA implementation. It does so without getting into technical implementation details (apart from mentionining a few standards). I found the elaboration of the different (graphical) models developed in the book and their examples very informative and useful.
Given the fact that SOA is getting momentum in organizations, and although the relevant technological standards are still in the maturing phase, this book is an excellent state-of-the-art accompaniment to anyone interested in Service-Oriented Architectures and their implementation aspects, benefits, and concerns.
