Reviews for Solaris Systems Programming

  1. Required reading for Solaris C programmers

    Rated 5 out of 5 stars, January 12rd, 2005

When I ordered this book, I had some reservations, fearing that it might be just a retread of Stevens APUE. These concerns were not really justified. The book contains a lot of material that is not covered by Stevens, some that is Solaris specific, but also quite a lot covering 64bit portability, standards that have evolved since 1993 and more on the standard C library.

Since writing this review, I've also bought and read Rago's 2nd edition of APUE. I must admit that it does somewhat take the wind out of the sails of Teer's book, especially if you do cross platform programming Mac OS X/Solaris/Linux. If your main domain is Solaris, then I'd still recommend Teer.
