An excellent book
Rated out of 5 stars, October 12th, 2009
A superb choice if you want to get up and running quickly with SQL.
As with all the In Easy Steps range, the chapters are short, well illustrated, clear and concise.
Whenever I need to learn a new computer language I always opt for one of Mike McGrath's books. They offer an excellent foundation which you can build on if you wish with more complicated books later on.
Five stars because I can't give it 6. -

When i started reading this, I just read like a story book. The book is interesting and takes you logically through all chapters. Also the chapters are subdivided into easier ones.
I highly recommend this books for all beginners. I have also become a great fan of ineasysteps after reading this book. More details of this book, contents and examples are avlbl. in the company website www.ineasysteps.com
The four star rating is because the author does not explain the difference between a table and a database.

Great Book
Rated out of 5 stars, August 12th, 2005
This book, like the others by Mike Mcgrath is truely one of the leading introductry books into computer/internet programming.Starting with the basics and leading onto the most advanced tecqniques everything is explained in an easy to follow way.
My only gripe about this book is that is trys to condense so much into the few pages, so I give 4 stars.

misleading

Waste of time, and the title is some what misleading. I thought sql in this book would be sql standard -
This book is EXCELLENT - far more than you would expect!

This book is truly fantastic!I've not found any other SQL book which covers as much in such a clear and concise way as this one.
This takes you from the basics (it assumes absolutely no prior SQL experience!) right up to some seriously powerful queries in a concise and clear format - it really is superb. If you have no prior SQL experience, this book takes you through developing your knowledge in stages and helps you to build up your confidence.
I now use this book as a syntax reference - it is so clearly and concisely written. The examples and tutorials in the book are demonstrated using the Open Source MySQL database, which can be freely downloadable from mysql.com The syntax etc is mainly the same for other SQL database (eg, MS-SQL, Oracle, DB2 etc) - but the book does point out any differences where thay are important.
I really can't recommend this book enough!
It's far more than you would expect from an "in easy steps" book. You really are onto a winner here!
