Reviews for Sun Certified Solaris 9 System and Network Administrator All-in-one Exam Guide

  1. Don't bother

    Rated 1 out of 5 stars, January 12th, 2004

Just passed my Part I exam, despite this book. I've plenty of Solaris experience and bought the book as a refresher, but as an Exam Guide it is very poor. It is littered with mistakes, omissions, and misleading sections. It would be very confusing for a newbie. The exam questions on the included CD are identical to those in the book apart from where they are completely wrong !. Avoid.
  2. Could do better, a lot better

    Rated 2 out of 5 stars, July 12nd, 2003

Their are a lot of good books out there and this isn't one of them. My first complaint would be over the obvious poor editing that has gone into the book. Here an editor has clearly cleaved paragraphs out, so that the text will run then their will be a gaping hole.
Secondly their are many technical errors in the book, especially in the practice questions, you know they are wrong when you compare it to....
Sun Certified Network Administrator for Solaris by Rick Bushnell, which is perfect, a beautifully written book explaining things in detail in a way which is a pleasure.
Also the Syngress SCSA book is pretty good, not as good as Bushnell which is obviously a work of love.
Why give it 2 stars, well its no good as a reference and doesn't give enough information to pass an exam, it has lots of errors, but I'm generous.
