This book is FRESH!! It might have been written a few years back, but it's well written and fresh as a daisy. -
Mitch Returns!!
Rated out of 5 stars, February 12th, 2007
Howdy,
After working in a tier one investment bank (braces, hight waist band etc - you know the thing), I found that by using this book, my knowledge was expanded to the point that I managed to move on in the Sybase world and on in my carrear. Though loved at that bank, I found that this extra knowledge meant that I could move into the high paced, rock and roll world of catelouge ordering system of Argos in Doncaster (where I'm a truly loved man!).
I highly recommend this, as I do Argos! -
Not worth the money...
Rated out of 5 stars, July 12th, 2001
After reading this book, I realised how useless it is. I maybe saying this cause I have good knowledge of repserver. However, the manuals provide the best knowledge. Also I work with one of the ex-senior developers of repserver, so I suppose my knowledge would most likely surpass that of Kirkwood or Akle.Overall not bad.., but stick to the manual, you'll pick up much more than you think.

The better of the 2 book available and reasonable
Rated out of 5 stars, August 12th, 2000
Of the two Sybase Rep Server books available (the other by Clifford), this is the better book. But it has many spelling mistakes (the first being on page 14) and the grammatical mistakes make the book hard to read. It is as if the book has not been proof read before publication. The information is presented in a good way and you will learn a lot about rep server from this book, but you will learn equally as well just by reading the manuals that come with Rep Server. I prefer the manuals to this book. -
Fills a Major Gap in the Literature
Rated out of 5 stars, January 12th, 2000
What the Computer Literature world has been missing up until now is an up-to-date book on Sybase Replication Server Administration. Finally, here it is. John Kirkwood's style will be well-known to people who have used and appreciated his other books on SQL Server Administration, and there is no change here, now aided and abetted by Garry Arkle. No punches are pulled; if something is felt to be a poor design feature, or unreliable in use, then we are told, which is very refreshing. They even achieve the seemingly impossible task of making the majority of the material almost enjoyable to read - no mean feat, for which they should both receive some sort of award! The book covers material to suit a wide range of experience, and so will suit beginners and seasoned administrators alike. If you need to administer Replication Server, or if you plan to in the future, I would highly recommend that you buy and use this book. I bought it, and I use it frequently.
