Reviews for The Definitive Guide to JasperReports

  1. Not again

    Rated 1 out of 5 stars, November 12th, 2008

Apress should once again be ashamed of this offering. Along with "The Definitive Guide to iReport", this book is a waste of money. I bought the book to accompany with the abysmal on-line documentation offered by JasperReports. However, there is nothing contained between the two covers that is not available looking at the project files included with JasperReports. The book is listed by Apress as Intermediate to Advanced but this is a gross over-statement. Anyone looking for advanced tuition in JasperReports would do better to search the web and save his money. This is another offering from a core member of JasperReports that disappoints entirely. How does Apress keep getting away with this?
  2. A waste of money

I am a regular buyer at Amazon and I already have a nice collection of java related books. Normally I buy a book if I am in need of fast help for a specific subject. Unfortunately this book was not very helpful. Most subjects were already found by me by just some simple "googling". For instance I really missed examples, which every developer wants to get a good start. Most books I buy are filled with good examples! The only thing the authors did was just referring to existing downloadable example code. Another anoying part of the book is reprinting parts of the used DTD of the jasper files. There is really no need to do that. Every smart developer can download and read such a file. Again, it would be valuable if you used configuration examples.
I wanted to give 0 stars, but unfortunately the site doesn't allow that. Sorry guys, hopefully you are more succesful with future reprints (after editing)!
