Reviews for The Web Designer's Idea Book: The Ultimate Guide To Themes, Trends & Styles In Website Design: The Ultimate Guide to Themes, Trends and Styles in Website Design

  1. distinctly average

    Rated 2 out of 5 stars, March 12th, 2010

I brought this book on the provisio that I expected it to contain a structured selection of websites each doing different things and representing different approaches to web design - How wrong I was - This lame book organises all samey samey type websites as structed by the dominating colour that presides throughout it - , so there's a section for black, a section for green etc.. Don't waste your money on this pathetic dribble, if it's inspiration for website design, as you just won't find it here.
  2. Good for examples of website design

    Rated 4 out of 5 stars, March 12th, 2010

Full of pictures of websites, all in colour. Loads of different styles and types. There is some text but it is not really important, what you are buying is a little snapshot of the world of website design. Save yourself a lot of time and show it to a client first to find out what kind of approach they like before you start work on their website. Lots of the sites are current at time of writing so you can visit the actual sites themselves. 252 pages, I have found it very useful. Good book, with twice as many pages it would have been truly excellent.
  3. Great ideas

    Rated 4 out of 5 stars, November 12nd, 2009

The book has a huge collection of screen shots from good looking websites with different colour schemes and layouts.
This is an ideal book for a designer like me who needs a little inspiration once in a while. It can save you time trying ideas that might not work.
The only downside to this book are the pages with text on. The text is completely useless and seems to be there just for the sake of it.
Overall I'm glad i bought this book for the thousands of ideas but i wont be reading any of the text.
  4. Great for inspiration

    Rated 4 out of 5 stars, October 12th, 2009

I am setting up my own website and have no experience in this before. This is a great book for giving you ideas regarding layout, design and content for a range of websites. Filled with lovely glossy pages and in full colour, I think this is well worth the price. Each image is accompanied with a URL to explore the design further.
  5. Nice book but not for my purpose

    Rated 3 out of 5 stars, October 12th, 2009

The book is good, really, but I thought there would be more technical hints for how to create a certain site. The book is definitely inspiring, but I should have read better what the purpose of the book was.

    Thanks.
