Good book for it's audience

Being , up until recently, a Suse Linux user , I was expecting a book covering beginners to advanced with plenty of information covering ,those, all to frequent, under bonnet moments, where a bit of hand holding support is needed.
Instead , this book spends too much time on ls, chmod and the like. I wanted a book that emphasized the unique parts where "Ubuntu" differs from he linux herd. -
OK, but out of date already.

This book is crammed with info on Ubuntu, but even to a relative newbie like me it appears out of date. For instance, it gives some information on the boot loading program Grub, but this was replaced by Grub2 in version 9.10 (or even earlier). All the tips given on that subject don't work. Still plenty of stuff to learn from, but I can't now trust all it says. A pity - the authors should have spent a bit more time updating rather than just changing the cover...
