Reviews for UNIX for Programmers and Users: A Complete Guide

  1. EXTREMELY USEFUL......Especially for newbies to UNIX

    Rated 5 out of 5 stars, September 12th, 2001

I bought the first edition in 1996, during this period I was thrown into the deep end of a major Client-Server project, where the Server was SYBASE residing on a UNIX platform. Having not used UNIX since leaving University 6 years prior to that, I was panicking big-time. A colleague on the same project recommended this book and within a week I was absolutely comfortable with the UNIX environment and by the second week, I was writing complex shell scripts. Absolutely fanatastic book. If you are new or just starting to work within the UNIX environment, this is the book to have.
