Not to hot, Not to cold...just about right.

This is one of the best books on unix for beginners. There is a wealth of information covering most aspects of unix and also delves into programming perl with an excellent tutorial on AWK.I would not say its the greatest Unix manual in the world, but it's definatly a great book for the price.
Even if you are an advanced user, buy this book and keep it on your shelf as a source of reference.
When things go wrong and you don't have time to root threw other books, you can pick this book up go straight to the topic you need.
It does not go very deep into most of the topics covered, but it does cover a huge amount of topics giving you the basic skills to get you on your way.
A refreshing change. One of the few books that i can pick up and open at any page at random and start reading.
Hats of to Rosen, Host, Farber and Rosinski.

As a unix beginner, this was a superb reference book that told me everything I needed to know in sufficient detail and clarity. -
Interesting in outline but short on detail.

I was expecting some much more detailed technical outline of some administrative tasks associated with Solaris 2x, but received a disappointing introduction. This book appears to satisfy the curiosities of those new to UNIX.
