Reviews for Visual Modeling with Rational Rose 2002 and UML (Object Technology Series)

  1. Getting to grips with O.O. modelling and Rational Rose.

    Rated 4 out of 5 stars, June 12th, 2003

Having worked as a consultant analyst for a number of years and in the process, introduced O.O. methods and tools to a number of multi-national companies, I needed to find out how to produce good models using Rational Rose and to discover how good a modelling tool it is.

Having aquired a copy of Rational Rose, my next problem was how to use the tool and then how to use it effectively.

The book is an excellent means to establish how to use the tool if you already understand the underlying concepts of Object Oreintation and want to find out how to apply them using the tool.

However, if you are not familiar with the principles and hope to use this book to find out how to undertake O.O. modelling, then there are better books around e.g. The series by Sally Shlaer and Stephen Mellor, explain the principles and practicalities far better, and in a manner that is easier to understand and apply (a pity that the terminology and notation are different).

However, for what I wanted, namely how to use the tool and to translate to Rational's jargon, it is an excellent book that deserves to be on every analyst's desk.
