  1. Disappointing

    Rated 1 out of 5 stars, July 12th, 2008

Bought this book last week and find it very disappointing. I think it tries to cover too much - as it says, it's 7 books in one - so it doesn't cover anything properly. It tries to give an introduction to ASP.NET, SQL express, VB, C#, XML, AJAX etc but ends up confusing and superficial. I already have books on ASP, VB and SQL, so what I was looking for was a reasonably quick guide to Visual Studio alone. But it's hard to find the bits on VS without getting confused with all the rest - eg look up users and you spend half your time trying to figure out if it's addressing VS user issues, ASP.NET user security, user controls, SQL users or what. I'd recommend looking for a more specific book on VS rather than this one - I certainly will!Visual Studio Pro 2008 (PC)Visual Studio Pro 2008, Upgrade Edition (PC)
