Good starting out guide for Windows CE 6.0
Rated out of 5 stars, December 12nd, 2008
It's not a reference book, but you've got other books or MSDN for that - and the book points the way well to the reference sources.
There is a good breadth to the book and it's fairly easy reading for this kind of material which can be heavy going. It avoids having to wade through more detailed references for basic information.
It has a slightly quirky translation/writing style, and a bit inconsistent in depth of its discussions. It loses a star mainly for this. However this only causes 1 or 2 comprehension problems, and is easily outweighed by the useful information it gives.
> E.g. Several pages of screenshots of install of VS 2005.
There are a few very insightful chapters
> New kernel changes in CE 6.0
> Build system
> Drivers
It should be required reading for programmers starting out on Windows CE 6.0, such as those new to embedded programming, those transitioning from Windows desktop programming or those with experience with another embedded OS (the latter being my situation).
It gives a good overview of the development steps required to deliver a whole embedded system based on CE for managers, or people just wanting to find out what CE 6.0 is about.
