Beginners only...

The book is an introduction to XML and related techniques. To get an impression of these techniques I think it is recommendable.
One thing disturbed me: the book was printed badly (a lot of pages had grey-ish text instead of black, as if the printer had been running out of ink) -
A great intro to XML for tech writers

This is a great introduction to how XML is used in the technical communication business. The book is well written and comprehensive. It's a short book but it covers everything you'd expect in a book of this type.
There are plenty of books out there about XML, but they tend to be written for programmers. It's refreshing to see something that focuses on how XML is used in technical writing and localisation. I particularly like the chapter that handles DocBook and DITA and the glossary, which is the best of its type I've seen.
I think technical authors, documentation managers, and others in the industry will find this book really useful.
